Ariane 5, Europe’s Heavy Lift
As a nominal launch A5 can carry around 10t of payload mostly in the dual launch configuration. It is capable to serve satellites for the GEO stationary orbit, as well as inject the payload for other heights and orbits in space. The flight is performed automated, that means there is no steering and controlling of the launcher after its lift-off from the launch pad. In order to do so, the control is taken over by the on-board computer having the control of the sub-systems necessary to steer and initiate the separation of parts of the launcher until the release of the payloads into the appropriate orbit in space from the upper composite of the launcher.
Module 1: A5 SEL (Système Electrique et Logiciel): The A5 Electrical System and Software
This presentation will give an introduction to the composition of the Ariane 5 rocket and the main subsystems, it will specifically focus on the upper composite of the launcher which is the secondary stage of the launcher.
It will present how the avionics are modularized according their purposes, how they are interacting with each other during the different flight phases as well as the principles to ensure its and people’s safety.
