„understanding the past - working for the future - measured typologies“

We warmly invite you to the first „understanding the past - working for the future - measured typologies“ exhibition.

The aim of this project is to survey and document the main building typologies within the historic centre of Stone Town, Zanzibar – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Political upheaval, loss of knowledge, lack of funds and accelerated by climate change and tourism, the buildings in the historic centre of Stone Town have been neglected to the point of destruction. In September 2023, 11 students from the School of Architecture Bremen travelled to Stone Town of Zanzibar and surveyed the first typologies - securing documentation for the future.
