School of Architecture Bremen
„People do design. Planning and implementing change in the world around us is one of the key things that makes us human. Language is what we say; design and making is what we do. Computers are simply a medium for this ancient enterprise.“ - Robert Woodbury
The CAAD-LAB is the computer pool of the School of Architecture Bremen (SoAB). The SoAB has two pool rooms with modern equipment, which can also be freely used by students outside of teaching. This is where the basic training of students on the topics of CAAD, modeling, visualization and digital fabrication processes takes place. In order to be able to do justice to all facets of architectural representation, a VR Lab with powerful computers is also available.
In addition to typical CAD/BIM working environments, students learn the basics of 3D modeling, algorithmic and parametric design principles and their implementation by means of digital fabrication in close cooperation with specialized institutions of the SoAB and Faculty of Architecture, Building and Environment.
In addition, knowledge of real-time rendering engines is taught, which are used in architecture for various purposes: e.g. for the interactive 3D visualization of a planned building or for generative and parametric design. Virtual reality is becoming increasingly important for the visualization and experience of architecture. An interactive and immersive environment creates new viewing possibilities and challenges for future design.
