The course is an introduction to concepts, activities, and decisions that relate to the marketing functions in domestic and international settings. The focus is on the development and implementation of marketing strategies through the use of marketing mix
variables of product, price, place, and promotion.

The module is a course on Finance at beginners' level, which will focus on the time value of money, project analysis, risk and return, financial asset valuation, and financial decision‐making. The course is, to a great extent, based on developing problem‐solving abilities. By the end of the class, each student has a basic understanding of how financial decisions are made.

The purpose of this course is to provide an introduction and overview to the field of management. It serves as an introductory exploration into the fundamental principles and practices of management. In doing so it provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the roles, functions, and responsibilities of managers in various organizational settings. Emphasizing both theory and practical applications, the course covers key topics such as job performance, leadership, teamwork, diversity, ethics, and sustainability. The course aims to offer a well‐rounded understanding of management, and provide a solid foundation for practical applications in professional settings.

This course introduces students to the core concepts of doing business around the globe. Learners will explore the differences between nations to understand how firms can leverage these differences for competitive advantage. Participants will then move on to understand and develop strategies for market entry and running operations in foreign territories.

Design Thinking aims to “think outside the box” and challenges established mental models. The intention here will be to foster a growth mindset which involves raising awareness about cognitive biases.

The course prioritizes active practice over passive learning. It gives short theoretical inputs but focuses on lots of opportunities to practice and train creativity and imagination.

Learning objectives of the course include:

Cognitive Skills such as:

• Describing the different stages of Design Thinking
• Explaining advantages and disadvantages of a non-linear iterative approach in comparison to a linear approach.
• Naming approriate creativity tools for the different stages

Skills such as:

• Adapting and applying the knowledge about Design Thinking to a project they work on in the course
• Using creativity tools and acquire skills to work in teams
• Developing social competence (e.g. communication skills, giving and receiving feedback

In addition to the interest in the chosen subject, we expect students to:

• Bring their own laptop,
• Be keen to engage with tutors and other students,
• Commit to the hours outlined for each program,
• Be open to other backgrounds and cultures, and be willing to share your own background.

Proof of English Proficiency

Since all courses are taught in English, a proof of ability to study in English is required for all students whose native language is not English and who are not studying in an English-speaking program at their home university.

In that case, one of the following certificates is required:

• At least level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
• Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL – at least 87 points)
• Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC – at least 750 points)
• Cambridge Proficiency (CPE – minimum grade: C)
• Cambridge Advanced (CAE – minimum grade: B)
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS – minimum grade: 6.0)
• Business English Certificate (BEC 3 – minimum grade: B)

We require you to inform yourself in detail before your departure about your insurance coverage abroad and, if required, to take out the relevant insurances (health insurance, accidence insurance and liability insurance). Please be aware that participants of the Short-Term Study Program are not insured by Bremen City University of Applied Sciences / HSB and the university does not assume any liability. Thus, participants are responsible for their own health, accident and liability insurance.

Whether you need a visa depends on your nationality. If you are a resident of the EU/EEA and return home within 90 days of arrival, you do not need a visa to enter Germany. The same applies to some 40 additional nationalities. Please check with the German Federal Foreign Office (www.auswaertiges-amt.de) if you need a visa.

The participation in the Short-Term Study Program is free of charge (no program fee) for students of the above listed US-partner universities and for students who are enrolled at the HSB - School of International Business.

The program fee includes:

• Seminars and lectures, including conversations and presentations
• Registration fees
• Free access to Internet within the university as well as to the E-Learning platform
• University facilities: libraries, computers, and recreation facilities
• Course materials
• Support and assistance by tutors of the summer session team
• Certificate of Attendance and Transcript of Records for each module
• Evaluation

Participants in the Short-Term Study Program will have to cover the following costs themselves:

• Travel expenses
• Lodging in Bremen
• Board and personal spendings
• Insurance for the stay in Germany (health insurance, accidence insurance, liability insurance)
• Ticket for public transport within Bremen (Will be organized and offered by HSB program management.)
• Supporting program with guided city tour (Will be organized and offered by HSB program management.)
• Participation in optional activities (Will be organized and offered by HSB program management.

Board

Breakfast, Lunch and Snacks are on offer in the student cafeteria. The cafeteria is open from Monday to Friday. Furthermore, there are numerous dining options in the city, from restaurants to snack bars and takeaways.

Facilities

As an International Program participant, you will be provided with a log-in name and password which allows you to access the facilities at HSB in order to use the internet as well as the E-Learning platform. Therefore, please bring your own laptop with you.

And one more tip: Do not forget to have an ISIC (International Student Identity Card) issued to you by your home university. Many museums, cinemas and theatres offer reduced student rates

  There will be no classes on these days.

Bremen is a city of short distances. By tram or bus, you can reach your destination very easily.

Upon arrival, please purchase a city day ticket to reach your accommodation in Bremen.

Ticket for public transport within Bremen will be organized and offered by HSB program management.

You can either buy a monthly ticket for public transport within Bremen or the monthly "Deutschlandticket"/ Germany Ticket for the whole of Germany.
The monthly ticket for Bremen costs about EURO 70, the Germany Ticket costs about EURO 60.
Both tickets are valid for the duration of the program.

The number of students per course is limited. Please note that a course will not be offered if fewer than 10 students apply.

Where is the Hochschule Bremen located?

The Hochschule Bremen is located in the centre of Bremen, on the river Weser. It takes only 5 minutes walking to be on the Market Square. It is easy to reach the Hochschule Bremen by public transport from all parts of the town.

Bremen is well-connected as a center in the Northwest of Germany.

The Airport Bremen is located near the city center and can be reached by tram. From here there are numerous connections to the largest aviation hubs in Germany and Europe.

The train station in Bremen is one of the largest in the Northwest, with numerous connections to all cities and regions in Germany.
There are also several bus connections from Bremen to other cities in Germany and Europe.

Supermarkets offer a large range of products at reasonable prices. Each city district has several supermarkets. When shopping, you should make a habit of looking at the various items and comparing prices. They often have special offers. You can buy particularly reasonably-priced food in the discount markets. They neither offer a large range of products nor brand names but the quality is nevertheless good. Supermarkets mostly accept credit cards. The least expensive supermarkets in Bremen usually are ALDI, NETTO and LIDL.

In addition, there is a large department store in Bremen - it is called "Galeria". It is located directly near the market square. There you can find all things of daily use from clothes, cosmetics, household goods, shoes and much more.

Weekly markets
Do you really like and value fresh fruit and vegetables? Then you will find everything to suit your taste at the weekly markets. In most cases, farmers set up there stalls in the town centre. They sell flowers and farm produce from the region, as well as imported goods, such as exotic fruits. In Bremen the biggest weekly market takes place from Monday to Saturday (8 – 14 h) behind the town hall on the “Domshof”.

International Shops
If you are looking for something special, just take a look at the international food shops. A number of international food shops stock imported goods from all parts of the world. A Turkish vegetable grocer who also offers numerous oriental products will be found in every part of the town. In addition, you can find Asia shops with special products and spices or African shops in which you can buy manioc, for example.

Health-food shops
Shops selling particularly wholefood products and organically grown vegetables and fruit go by the name of "Bio Supermarkt" or "Reformhaus" in Germany. Also in supermarkets or discount markets you will find a variety of wholefood products. You can recognise these products by a green, octagonal bio seal awarded in accordance with the EEC Council Regulation on Organic Agricultural Produce. 

Drugstores

There are a number of drugstores - Rossmann / DM - in the city. In addition to cosmetics and care products for everyday use, there is also a wide range of cleaning products, detergents and much more.

Opening hours of shops

In Bremen many shops are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Supermarkets may have longer opening hours (from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. or even longer). Some bakeries are open on Sunday mornings. In principle, from Monday to Saturday most shops have to remain closed from 8 p.m. until 6.00 a.m. next morning. They remain closed on Sundays and on public holidays.

If shops are closed and you are in urgent need of something, petrol stations, railway kiosks or shops at airports as well as snack bars are the only places that will be able to help out. You can buy food, drinks, small items and newspapers outside of normal opening hours, although at a higher price.
