Bionik-Seminar
How the head of woodpeckers is adapted to their peculiar lifestyle has been the subject of much speculation and controversy. These birds are used as a model system for brain trauma prevention and shock absorption materials or devices like woodpecker-inspired helmets. Yet, studies on the pecking process in vivo are surprisingly rare. In this talk, I will present and discuss the results of my recent biomechanical analyses on this topic.
