The close integration of study and construction practice is at the heart of the Bachelor's and Master's degree courses in Civil Engineering at Bremen University of Applied Sciences. On 29.11.2023, the Advisory Board for Construction met at Bremen University of Applied Sciences, whose members play a key role in supporting the practice-integrated version of the Bachelor's degree course in Civil Engineering. This year, the focus of the advisory board meeting was on filling vacant professorships and improving laboratory conditions in the department. In addition, the forthcoming reaccreditation of the Civil Engineering B.Sc. and the Civil Engineering - Sustainable Planning and Construction M.Sc. courses was presented and both the curricular structure and content were discussed.
At the meeting, the advisory board informed the university lecturers about current developments in the construction industry and their influence on professional fields of activity, as well as in general about the future requirements of practice for university graduates. "The civil engineering degree programs place particular emphasis on providing students with a practice-integrated and scientifically oriented education. We look forward to the exchange with the members of the advisory board from construction companies, construction industry associations, the water industry, transport and the public sector, which will be beneficial for the future," emphasized Prof. Dr.-Ing. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stephan Lochte-Holtgreven, head of the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering during the welcome address.
The honorary advisory board includes Dr. Maike Timm (STB Ingenieure and Chairwoman of VPI Bremen), Torsten Sasse (S3 Sasse + Sasse GmbH Beratende Ingenieure und Architekten and President of the Bremen Chamber of Engineers), Florian Franz (Managing Director of hanseWasser Bremen GmbH), Markus Mey, (BPR Ingenieure GmbH & Co. KG and Chairman of VSVI), Robert Howe (Technical Managing Director of bremenports GmbH & Co. KG), Jörg Wenzel (Goldbeck Nord GmbH) and Lüder Kathmann (Bernhard Kathmann Bauunternehmung GmbH u. Co. KG). The leading figures from renowned companies and associations in the region advise the lecturers on the professional design of the course content. In addition, the members of the advisory board support the students with offers of work placements, job opportunities as working students and career entry.
