Structural engineering forms the link between structural analysis and the basic design subjects, such as timber construction, steel construction or reinforced concrete construction. The aim is to understand the design of structures as a development process that optimizes all concerns under the given framework conditions.
On the one hand, experimental statics is a didactic method to develop and consolidate the theoretical basics in the bachelor's program through guided and independent experiments. On the other hand, it is my passion to analyze existing structures and to test their structural safety. Experiments have always accompanied the process of describing physical reality in abstract models.
In Bremen, this approach is reversed: the load test on the existing structure is the proof and reveals the potential of (historic) structures in the form of reserves, or useful load increases.
