Research
The Hochschule Bremen strives to offer optimal conditions for its young academics and thus also strengthen the quality of research. Doctorates are possible in cooperation with German and international universities. They are expressly welcomed and centrally supported in addition to the requisite specialist supervision.
The Hochschule Bremen, like most universities of applied sciences, does not have its own right to award doctorates.
Notwithstanding this, a doctorate at HSB can be carried out in cooperation with a German or international research university. In this case, the doctorate is awarded by the cooperating university.
As a rule, cooperative doctoral candidates have a supervisor at the HSB and a supervisor at the cooperating university.
In this way, cooperative doctoral students can also benefit from different perspectives and offers and they are often able to acquire direct contacts in practice through their application-oriented research.
A doctorate usually takes 3 years.
In 2013, the Hochschule Bremen established the Doctoral College for the quality assurance of doctoral studies. Within this framework, HSB supports and promotes its doctoral students in their cooperative doctorates. Financial support (usually the funding of final theses) can also be applied for via HSB's R&D fund. Structural support for doctoral students at HSB is currently being established.
As part of the Focus on Research series organised by the Research Service, regular events are offered for the target groups of researchers, young academics and doctoral students. In addition, there are cooperation agreements with the University of Bremen and the University of Oldenburg for free participation in their respective offers for doctoral students.
