OuterSpace is an interdisciplinary cooperation project between the Master's degree programs in Architecture at the School of Architecture and Integrated Design at the University of the Arts Bremen. Following on from the questions of urban qualities, the teaching-research project is dedicated in annual succession to the topics of change in the landscape and settlement area of the municipal association of Lower Saxony Bremen (Bremen and the surrounding area). The first cycle of the project in the summer semester 2022 will focus on the district of Osterholz and its regional integration.
The Osterholz museum complex in Osterholz-Scharmbeck, north of Bremen, combines the local history and bird museum on the site of an old monastery. The museum complex has the potential to become a place for communication and reflection on the sustainability of the landscape. The city, district and civil society are discussing controversially how the facility can tell and bring to life the local cultural history of mankind and integrate an important bird collection.
Local stakeholders see this potential, but are currently focusing on historically established positions and constellations. As the museum complex could be an ideal place from which those involved could set out on the path to a landscape-related socio-ecological transformation, the School of Architecture at Bremen University of Applied Sciences and the Interdisciplinary Design course at Bremen University of the Arts have taken this starting point as an opportunity for a joint teaching and research project "Outer_Space".
