Following the globalisation of the economy, we are now experiencing the globalisation of education. The demand for university graduates with an international profile is growing fast. This is particularly true for the area of Business Studies.
The Business Studies / International Management (BIM) degree programme combines classic business education with a strong overarching focus on international operations. The continuous study of two foreign languages – English, French or Spanish – and (mostly) a two-year stay abroad paves the way for a successful career and promotes flexibility and mobility. In addition to studying in Great Britain, France or Spain, you also have the opportunity to gain international experience in the US and Mexico. In partnership with a university abroad, you may also be able to study for a double degree.
Application period for the start of the summer semester 2025: 15 December '24 - 15 January '25
You will be qualified to take on specialist and, in the long term, management positions in business areas with an international orientation and to work in international management teams.
Typical career areas include:
From regularly carried out alumni surveys, we know that the majority of graduates get a job at the latest six months after graduation, some of them even earlier than that. Moreover, a good third of graduates start their careers abroad.
You will receive a comprehensive education in the areas of business administration and international management. In the 6th and 7th semesters, you start building profile, whereby you can choose between the areas of marketing, finance and human resource management. These are regularly the areas in which internationally operating companies have a particular need for graduates with international competences.
The eight-semester programme is structured in two parts, so that integrated studies are possible, e.g. half in the 2+2 model at home and half abroad. This model concludes with a Bachelor's degree from the Hochschule Bremen and a corresponding degree from the partner university. In the 3+1 model, the last two semesters (without a further work placement) are studied abroad, in which case, as a rule, only the Bachelor's degree from the Hochschule Bremen is awarded.
In addition to the strong international focus, the pronounced practical relevance is another great strength of the BIM degree programme. The programme has firmly established contacts with leading German and international companies that offer you challenging work placements in a wide range of business management areas (see below). Furthermore, students are frequently offered the opportunity to write their Bachelor‘s thesis in close cooperation with a company.
Two practical phases are integrated into the degree programme. The 4th and 8th semesters represent the two practical semesters. The first of the two is to be completed in Germany, the second abroad. If you take up studies at one of the partner universities of the degree programme, this is done in reverse order.
According to the examination regulations, the work placement lasts 18 weeks in the fourth semester and 15 weeks in the eighth semester.
You can find offers of student placements here:
Current offers of placements for all degree programmes of Faculty 1 can be viewed in printed form in the glass display cases in the corridor of the A wing, ground floor. Moreover, all such offers will soon be available for download via the script server.
„Thanks to BIM, I spent two unforgettable years in France – which significantly improved my language skills – and I learned to find my way around in an intercultural environment without any problems.“
Insa Ostendorf graduate of the programme and recipient of the Excellence Award funded by the German-French University of Applied Sciences
What's so special about BIM? Your stay abroad accounts for as much as half of the whole integrated eight-semester programme. The result is a truly binational university education in business administration – plus work placements both at home as well as abroad. Studying with such a strong international orientation, however, not only means improving your career prospects, but also great personal enrichment through the challenge and fun attached to a two-year stay abroad in Marseille, Valencia, London or the US – or maybe even a location of your own choice.
For the particularly popular 2+2 model, there is a closely interlinked study programme with KEDGE Business School in Marseille, Universidad Valencia, the University of Hertfordshire near London as well as with the US partner universities in Wilmington (UNCW) and Utah (WSU). For more than 20 years now, BIM has also been a member of the TransAtlanticBusinessSchoolAlliance (TABSA).
It is often asked whether extremely high tuition fees are charged when studying abroad. This does not normally apply to our students: In most cases, you can study abroad free of charge because of the student exchange programme. In some cases (in English-speaking countries) this only applies with restrictions (e.g. only a limited number of fee-free places).
For all European cooperations, it is also possible to receive funding for a study period of up to one year through the DAAD programme "Erasmus+".
BIM partners in practice: Companies with which the BIM degree programme has agreed a strategic and long-term partnership.
