Deutschlandsemesterticket
Frequently asked questions and answers about the new Deutschlandsemesterticket.
With a few exceptions, all HSB students must purchase the Deutschlandsemesterticket.
The Deutschlandsemesterticket is financed on the basis of solidarity, i.e. it can only be offered at such an inexpensive price because all students have to pay the ticket fee, even if not everyone uses the ticket to the same extent. This had also been the case with the previous ‘normal’ semester ticket.
The obligation to purchase the ticket was contractually agreed to by AStA as the elected representative of the student body and the transport companies. According to the contract, almost all students must purchase the ticket.
Only visiting and part-time students as well as students in special part-time degree programmes are neither required nor permitted to purchase the Deutschlandsemesterticket.
There are various reasons for exemption from the obligation to purchase the Deutschlandsemesterticket [see Can I be exempted from the Deutschlandsemesterticket?].
The Deutschlandsemesterticket is identical to the Deutschlandticket (€49 ticket).
The difference is that, due to being financed by all students, it is offered at a lower price (60% of the normal price).
The appearance, function and area of validity correspond 1:1 to the regular Deutschlandticket.
The Deutschlandsemesterticket is a personal season ticket, which is not transferable and is issued as a personalised digital ticket.
The new Deutschlandsemesterticket will be introduced at HSB during winter semester 2024/25, and will be valid from October 1st, 2024.
Payment is required as part of re-registration or re-enrolment, starting in August 2024. Applications for exemption should be submitted as early as possible.
The Deutschlandsemesterticket will be available to all students at HSB via the new ‘Campus HSB’ app. To log in, use the same HSB user data that allows you to access Aulis and all other services of Bremen University of Applied Sciences.
Detailed information on the ‘Campus HSB’ app can be found [here]
Note for first-year students: Your HSB user account must be activated beforehand!

§4 section 1 no. 1 of the contract:
Students who, due to their studies, spend at least three months of the semester abroad can be exempted from paying for the semester ticket.
§4 section 1a no. 4
Students who, for study-related purposes such as an internship or a Ph.D., spend at least three months of the respective semester outside the geographical area of validity.
-> three months of the respective semester
-> on the basis of your studies
-> outside the area of validity
-> the exemption always applies to an entire semester (all or nothing)
Students on leave of absence can be exempted from paying for the Deutschlandsemesterticket.
Students on leave of absence who wish to use the Deutschlandsemesterticket can obtain the ticket but must pay the full amount.
Further information on leave of absence can be found at: Formalities -> Leave of absence
Severely disabled persons who are entitled to free transport in accordance with § 145 section 1 of the Ninth Book of the German Social Code (Neuntes Buch des Sozialgesetzbuches) can be exempted from paying for the Deutschlandsemesterticket.
A right to free transport for other reasons (e.g. BSAG employees) does not entitle the holder to an exemption.
Please apply for the exemption as early as possible, preferably at the time of re-registration.
An application for exemption must be submitted no later than 2 months after the start of the semester.
Example:
Start of the semester: 01 October 2024
Deadline for exemption or refund: 30 November 2024
Further information on the exemption can be found on the following page.
Please apply for the exemption in Department 3 - Registrar's Office and Student Affairs. You can find a form on the website [Application for semester ticket exemption - German].
If you are confident that your application will be approved, you can go ahead and pay the reduced semester fee. If you have already paid in full, a refund may be issued [Formalities].
The ticket is only valid as long as you are enrolled. The enrolment status is verified each time the ticket is pulled up in the app.
If you de-register at the end of a semester and have paid for the ticket, you can use it in full.
If you wish to de-register during the semester, the ticket becomes invalid on the day of de-registration. Pro-rated refunds may be issued only for full, unused months [Formalities-> De-registration].
Full refunds may be issued if you de-register within one month after lectures start.
The Deutschlandsemesterticket is available to all students via the Campus HSB app. The app is only available for Android & iOS devices. More detailed technical specifications can be found in the App Store or the Google Play Store.
